HARBOR SEAL

by Joey Racano

Ever wonder how you'd feel

if you were a Harbor Seal?

Harbor Seal with no safe harbor,

Tree without a day of arbor

The time has come to trust in Man

join your cousin of the land

Place your flipper in my hand

Have your babies on the sand'

BEAUTIFUL SEALS OF THE SAND

by Robyn Levash

Oh little one
Sun bather of the sands
Lover of the sun
Admired from afar . . .
By the people of the lands

Oh little one
What's happened to this safe haven?
Your home . . . look what they've done

Removed you and your young
So where do you go now?
Because you're high strung
You're no longer allowed?

Oh little one
It's not the same without you
You bring us much laughter and fun
Mother Earth feels it's wrong of us too

Because you cannot speak
You must trust in us to do so
The best outcome for you . . . we'll seek
So you never have to worry . . . and have a safe place to go

IF YOU WERE A SEAL, HOW WOULD YOU FEEL

by Cindy Benner

You have a home where you can lie day after day
You don’t know others want to take it away.

You give birth to your babies on the sand
It’s a beautiful event – it’s truly grand.

You nurse your young so they can learn to fish
For them to be safe is your only wish.

There are people at the top of the stairs
Why they are there you do not care.

They are telling others to beware
They know from experience that you easily scare.

They’re there to protect you in your home
They don’t want you to be forced to roam.

Federal officials have been told this isn’t fair
They ignore enforcing the law – do they truly care?

Your friends stand united to spread the word
They won’t stop until they are heard.

You need to be protected once and all
The challenge definitely isn’t small.

But in the end they will prevail – they know it’s wrong and it’s truly a sin
Some day soon, you will be able to soundly sleep as the light grows dim.

IF YOU WERE A SEAL, WHAT WOULD YOU DO

by Dennis Fritzinger

if you were a seal, what would you do

having just given birth to a seal pup or two

a wet lump of life that smells just like you

if you were a seal, what would you do?

There's no seals in Nebraska

except at the zoo

and no seals in Iowa or Kalamazoo

but plenty of people

so what would you do

if the only place you lived

had plenty of people too?

A seals life is hard

(you know that it's true)

when you try to put up

with the hullaballoo

of the tourists and gawkers

who are passing on through

so if you were a seal

what would you do?

If you were a seal

what would you do?

HARBOR ME

by Steve Toth

I'm just a small seal
with hind flippers
turned back for extra thrust

My ears don't stick out of my sleekness

Sometims you can spot me
basking on quiet beaches or low rocks
praising the one who made me

I don't bark when disturbed
I just slip quietly away
retreating to water

I can stay underwater for 20 minutes

I feed on fish squid and shellfish
I frequent shallow water
&sheltered coves or harbors

There's a beauty in my grace
I grace the water with my presence
Harbor me in your heart

I'm a miracle of existence in motion

One look into my dark
bottomless eyes & you'll see
I mean no harm
