New and Historic State Marine Reserve in Morro Bay Estuary!
Another OOG Victory!
Dear Ocean Outfall Group,

Above is a map off the Ocean Conservancy website showing the new and quite historic Marine Protected Areas on the Central Coast of California. One of them, designated SMR or 'State Marine Reserve' is in the Morro Bay National Estuary. This is the highest level of protection, where 'take' of any kind and even disruptive activity is completely prohibited.

This achievement was due to an unprecedented spirit of cooperation between the Department of Fish and Game, The Black Brandt Hunting Group, and 30 awesome environmental groups operating on the Central Coast under the umbrella of the SLO Coast Alliance.

It is fair to say the Ocean Outfall Group (along with Santa Lucia Chapter of Sierra Club, San Luis Bay Surfrider Foundation and the National Estuary Program) played a leadership role.

That little dot on that map affords the Morro Bay National Estuary's back bay the highest level of protection FOREVER and it belongs to OOG if to anybody- another decisive tangeable and powerful victory!

In loving memory of Bob Hattoy
